  1. The job that I found interesting was a Personal Banker for Bank of America. I find it interesting because you make a good amount of money. Bank of America requires you to be bilingual and to be fluent and also be able to write bilingual. You have to work 9-6pm Monday through Saturday which is a lot of dedication but the salary makes up for that.

  2. I found the job of working in customer service for Farmers Insurance. The job is located in their headquarters in California. You must speak both English and Mandarin Chinese fluently. While I am no where near fluent in Mandarin Chinese, this job interested. I am a relatively outgoing person, and enjoy talking to people, especially new people. I also like to help people, and this job is all about helping customers find answers to their questions. The salary is good, and the hours are probably the standard 9 to 5.

  3. International Business has always interested me because your job is to have the ability to travel the world and experience new cultures and people. With your job you can meet new people everyday and work hard to understand the way they live. International business is a general transaction that occurs between two countries, nations, or regions with politically different cultures. It is a way for businesses and major companies to expand their sales, resource acquisition, risk minimization, and to diversify their revenue stream.
In International Business I am able to use the mandarin I have and will learn to communicate with the business people. I can also use all i have learned about the culture to immerse myself and create a better understanding of how they live. In order to find a career in international business, I will need a strong education meeting many requirements. I will need to take about 15-32 graduate level courses, meeting the language requirements, and an Internship or study abroad.
International Business is a great way to immerse yourself in a culture you enjoy and want to learn more about, while making a living in doing something you enjoy. Business is something that I am interested in because you can use your creativity, meet new people, and deal with numbers/money. International Business is a great job for me because I have the ability to use my mandarin and explore new cultures.

    Thank You!

An economist interprets and predicts market trends by studying the use of goods, resources and services. An economist would advise and recommend the business owners on what they can do to make more money and be more successful and efficient. This job applies to what I will learn about Mandarin skills and culture because you have to learn how to respectfully talk to your boss or people in business. We learned that everyone gets a title so maybe I would have to learn what the boss’s title would be. Also, I would have to use the proper greetings like nin hao and manners like saying xie xie. In this job, you have to collect and analyze data with reports, graphs, and charts. Many economists work in the federal or state government and use special software. This job is available both in the US and in China and so it would be easy to get this job and stay employed. For example, some economists work for companies that have international branches, like the United Nations, the World Bank, and International Monetary Fund. International economists study and research international trade and what results from the increases of global economy trade. I would also have to know exchange rates between Chinese money and American money. To qualify for this position, it would be required to know Mandarin so that I could talk to the international operation and the company. Most of the time, a Ph.D. (Master’s Degree) and work experience is required for education. You need to study economics and math. To be an economist, you might have to work long hours with deadlines, and full time. The work environment could be stressful with a dead line. Traveling would be required so that I could meet with the company and the international operation. The average pay would be around $91,860 per year and per hour the average pay is $44.16. But, it could be as little as $51,410 or much as $155,490 per year.

The job I chose was a tour guide. I chose this because it seemed interesting and I love to travel and see the world. Being a tour guide is no easy task, regardless of where you’re touring. You have to pay attention to the specific needs of your audiences needs while keeping in mind the details and attributes of the place your showing. When you take these things and move to a different county, things get a lot more difficult. If you’re touring china, you have to be able to speak mandarin. It gives the tourist, whichever nationality they may be, a more realistic experience. Speaking mandarin also helps because if for some reason you’re stuck some place you can ask the nearest person you see for help or directions even if they are Chinese. By definition a tour guide gives specific narration in a place, often joining the tour group for just a couple of hours. Short-term events are great for tour guides; it’s perfect if you want to go home each night. This differs from a tour director, which is the person who oversees the logistics of the trip. They also give longer commentaries. Education requirements are light for this job. If you go to training schools, like “International Tour Management Institute (ITMI)” in San Francisco, you’ll have a higher opportunity of success. The hours are a lot though, you work mostly all day when you its your shift. You get little rest and need to study the place you’re touring. You travel a lot, since you’re a tour guide. Sometimes you go from country to country within weeks. The job is highly stressful, you have to entertain and enlighten groups of people on the daily. Salary is dependent on how much you work, you’re freelance in this job. The mean salary of a Tour Guide is $26,020. They range from $17,110 and go up to $37,550. The average salary for a Tour Guide may vary depending on several factors, like level of education, amount of experience, industry, company size and location.

The Chinese career that I picked was a Media Manager for the Chinese market. I thought that this job seemed very interesting because it gives you the opportunity to look into a different culture through a very different perspective. By this, I mean using social media you can gain insight as to what interests the Chinese people and such. This seems intriguing because you can discover new insights into different cultures, like the Chinese. The objective of this job is to use social media to engage with customers internationally and try to sell them a desired item. The average salary for a Media Manager is about $65,488 nationally. If you were to be a Media Manager for the Chinese market you would try to sell items from China to different countries through social media, and other sources of marketing. The Chinese language is extremely important for this job because you have to be able to communicate with the Chinese people to have the ability to sell an item appropriately. There are many opportunities for travel in this job career because you have to divulge in the different cultures to market their items correctly. This career requires a bachelor’s degree. One of the perks of this career is you would be in a very good environment and always be traveling. I think that this would be a very cool career to pursue.

  6. Travel agent is the job that I found interesting. A travel agents daily duties are too sell transportation, lodging, and admission to entertainment activities to individuals and groups. It is also their job to recommend interesting and trendy destinations around the area of travel. I chose to research this job because in order to recommend and explain these destinations you need to be familiar with the area and I really enjoy getting to know areas and then being able to recommend them to people sound like fun. Travel agencies prefer an employee that has taken classes in either college or high school that are involved in the travel industry. Being able to speak Mandarin Chinese is not a requirement in this industry but is definitely an advantage because you may have to do business with people who speak Mandarin Chinese. This shows you how being bilingual may be the advantage needed to get our desired occupation.

  7. The job I found interesting was Marketing Manager. A marketing manager analyses and strategizes ways to push a particular product into a certain market. This job is very difficult but rewarding. If you can speak another language then this job already becomes much easier, because you would be able to communicate and promote your companies’ products to markets outside of the United States. To become a marketing manager you will need a bachelor’s degree, and also you will need to be good with people and analyzing data. This job could also be very stressful because one will be constantly analyzing data and looking for new strategies to promote product. Marketing Managers also work long hours and typically work on the weekends, because they are constantly trying to make a breakthrough. A Marketing Manager will typically travel often, because they are meeting with other companies and meeting with potential market targets.

  8. The job that I picked to research was an Accounting assistant (bilingual Mandarin/English). This job pays 35,000 a year for a full time employment. It does not require any education. The only requirement is being fluent in Mandarin and English. With this job, you will need to keep track of a Vegan/ Vegetarian food distributor’s financial trackings. This job includes 100% paid medical benefits and a lucrative benefit package. There are many responsibilities of this job because you must be a good multitasker. This job would be stressful because whether the company does well or does bad is on your hands. If you mess with their financial records the IRS could come down hard on them. This job might also be stressful because of the travel time. I think that this job is a complete steal for someone who is hard working but couldn’t afford to go to college. The fill paid medical is also a huge bonus.

Information on being an accountant with Mandarin Skills
Some accountants need mandarin skills to be able to work as a specific accountant. Some responsibilities you would have for doing this job is to prepare asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information. Also documents financial transactions by entering account information. Recommends financial actions by analyzing accounting options. I chose the career to research because for a while I have been thinking about majoring in accounting for college. The main education requirement to be an accountant is math since accounting is mainly based around math. The ability in Mandarin is an advantage in qualifying for being in an accountant so this way you have a bigger variety of clients coming through your door. Accountant hours can range from the traditional 40 hours a week to more. The work environment would be inside an office on a computer. It is possible to travel if that’s what your client requires. The job could be stressful since you are dealing with money and other people’s money. The median annual salary for an accountant was $65,080 in 2013. If the employer requires the employee to work 42 hours in a given week, the extra two hours are paid at time-and0-a-half and the employee earns a total of $430 for the week.

Being a dealer at Mohegan Sun Casino would be an occupation that requires the ability to speak Mandarin. This job requires you to be able to deal cards in all games like poker, black jack, and seven card stud. You have to be a master of all of these games and have a very good understanding of math. I chose this career because you’re always engaging with new people and you are always having fun and creating conversation. You have to have a diploma in high school to acquire this job and having the ability to speak Chinese is an advantage in qualifying for the position. The job is a 6 day a week job, and you can work up to twelve hour days. The environment of this job is a constant flow of people always changing. There would be no traveling involved in this job besides changing tabled in the Casino. The one thing about this job is that it can be a very stressful atmosphere because people are betting large sums of money and you are the mediator of the whole game. The yearly starting salary at Mohegan Sun is $15,000 dollars a year, which isn’t great but as time goes on your salary increases. For experienced workers the pay can be anywhere up to $80,000 a year. Most Casinos across the country only give full benefits to their executives, but others do get small perks and minimal benefits.

  14. A job that I found interesting was being an English teacher in China. This would be an interesting job, because it requires a strong knowledge of both English and Chinese. The average teacher salary in China is about 50 thousand dollars a year, which is quite generous compared to that in the United States (http://www.glassdoor.com/Salaries/mandarin-chinese-teacher-salary-SRCH_KO0,24.htm). This would be a very good job, because benefits, such as food and room, are paid for by the school, with paid vacations on occasion. Also, teachers have a native assistant to help them guide the class. This would be a difficult environment, but if you enjoy kids, then it would be great for you. You would only work during school hours, so your schedule might be more relaxed, especially with the vacation throughout the summer. A strong knowledge of mandarin Chinese would be essential to this job, because you would have to function and guide kids in China, while living there. This would be a fun and enjoyable job!

To be truly proficient in the modern workplace, being, at a bare minimum, bilingual is almost a necessity. As many companies begin to expand to foreign countries, it can be very important to be able to speak both English and Mandarin if planning to work in business. However, the field in which being bilingual is most necessary is teaching languages. Teaching the world’s languages can mean several different things. For example, knowing how to speak English and Mandarin could lead to a variety of teaching careers. On the one hand, you could begin to teach English in China, allowing Chinese students to speak one of the world’s most widespread languages. On the other, you could teach American students to speak Chinese, which could lead to careers in international business or diplomacy. Teaching foreign language in America would, like teaching Chinese students English, involve a school environment, meaning very little travel, and moderate work hours and stress levels. It would also mean a yearly salary of approximately $50,000. Teaching English in China is a good job, considering that, acknowledging their footprint on global economics, China’s students are in need of learning to speak one of the world’s most widespread languages. In China, the monthly salary is approximately 6,000 – 10,000 RMB (Renminbi). However, the salary can greatly increase depending on the audience and location one teaches. Overall, teaching is a very viable career path for anyone with experience in bilingualism, and not only provides a reasonable salary, but the ability to influence the global economy.

In order to get this job as a Bilingual Mandarin Medical Clerk I would need to be able to speak both mandarin and English to be able to translate. I would have to keep the books for the company as well as coordinate patient appointments. I would have to be a people person to get this job as I would be working with a lot of the people who come into the hospital whether they are patients or not. I would be answering a lot of telephone calls and taking messages for many of the doctors. I chose this career because it seems like something you would really need to know mandarin for. Here it is.

A great career for those fluent in Mandarin is to tutor young students, either aiding them with Chinese or with English. A lot of families in the US are smart enough to realize that Chinese will be a very important and beneficial language to speak going forward, and have started pushing their children to learn their basics. Given that most public schools lack necessary funding to provide Chinese languages in addition to Spanish, French, and others, private tutors often have access to an untapped market full of families hoping to give their bright young children a strong advantage going into the future economic world.

Inversely, Chinese parents know equally well how important English can be in giving their children significant advantages upon entering the workforce. While English is taught to certain extents in nearly every school across China, strict Chinese parents will be more than willing to spend extra money to ensure their children receive top notch education. Being a native born English speaker provides an experience that even the most well versed natural Mandarin speakers cannot provide. Assuming one can speak Mandarin reasonably well, there may be a lot of potential in offering services as an English tutor for young Chinese students in China.

  20. A job that I found that would involve using my mandarin chinese skills is as a salesmen. I could use my chinese skills as a salesmen to push my product into the chinese culture. I would be able to communicate and advertise my product which would make me a valuable asset to whatever company I was a part of. In order to get this job I would need a college education and i would need to be a master of chinese in order to properly pitch my product to a fluent chinese speaker. This job would require me to work a normal 8-hour day, however it would be very boring because i would most likely sit at a desk, on the phone all day. This would cause me to be very stressed because i hate sitting in one spot all day. The average salesmen make about 42,000$ a year however since i would be such a valuable asset to my company with my abbility to speak 2 languages would enable my company to expand their business, i would hope that i'd make at least 70-100,000$. If i made that much it would make all of the bad parts of the job worth it.

As a english teacher in China it said that you will make enough money to still be able to travel around china and other parts of Asia. 22. A job that i chose to research was a bank manager or a banker. I chose this job because people in my family do this as their work. This is a great job if you can speak in Mandarin. It is great because to be a manager at a bank or a banker, you need relationships with the people that come to you. If someone who spoke Mandarin came to you, they would be impressed with what you could do, it can build character in the work field. This is a full time job and pays very well; it pays about 110,000 dollars per year, you are making about 50 dollars an hour. Bank managers usually need a bachelor's degree and about 5 years of another business or financial occupation. You also need different skills in order to be successful with this job. You need communication skills, analytical skills and also great math skills to be the best. This is a great job to be able to speak in both English and Mandarin because it could excel your work experience and you can obtain more relationships in the job.
